FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On Friday March 18, 2011 at 5:30pm professionals will be loosening their ties and converging at Postage, Inc. in Downtown Lancaster to collaborate on absurd concepts against impossible odds.
In 24 hours, the AppMobi / Postage, Inc. and friends team will have produced a hybrid smartphone game based on the popular (also Lancaster Home Grown) graphic novel, FUBAR. The clock starts at 5:30pm on Friday and ends on Saturday at the same time. Whatever is done at the end of 24 hours is what will be provided free of charge to the smartphone community and it’s going to be good. In addition to the original artwork and custom programming, much of the game’s story and all of the interstitial animated comics (between levels) will be produced within those 24 hours.
Postage Inc. is a cutting edge visual effects and animation studio, AppMobi is a world-class software and “app” development company. The two things they have in common is they love Lancaster enough to headquarter there, and… well, zombies.
After passing bids and ideas back and forth on potential projects, AppMobi came forward with the idea for a video game marathon. Postage dug through pages of ideas, characters and concepts and eventually rested hands on a well-read copy of FUBAR by Jeff McComsey. FUBAR is a graphic novel created and edited by the Lancastrian illustrator, writer and PCA&D Alumni who continues to sell-out stock at comic shops around the nation and who previously landed a publishing deal with Alterna Comics for American Terror several years ago.
The thing that makes FUBAR unique from other zombie fad, fodder… is that it is an anthology of short comics linking the zombie apocalypse to World War II. It spans the entire European Theatre from Sussex to Stalingrad as the allies come face to face with the walking dead. Perhaps it’s even, educational?
The next time McComsey happened by Postage Studios in Central Market Mall, he was in, and the game was afoot. “Zombies came up because the lead programmer on this project was a huge zombie fan so FUBAR seemed like a good fit.”, says McComsey. I’m no stranger to collaborating with a lot of people but this is the first time I’m collaborating with someone like AppMobi who does something I know nothing about. I like the fact that I can sit in but also just see the whole thing unfold. That’s something I’m super excited about to be perfectly honest.
FUBAR: Sgt. Killroy, the “app” will become available on Android and iTunes Stores as soon as it’s accepted into their content.
“This will help us [Postage, Inc. and AppMobi] streamline the process of working together in a fun way and hopefully lead to more collaboration as we blend the illustrative and animation talents of the Postage team with the extreme coding, and development skills of AppMobi who has already proven themselves time and time again to the world.”, says Allen Clements, Executive Producer & Principal, Postage, Inc.
Roy Smith, appMobi’s VP, Marketing said, “We’re excited to be a part of this project because it highlights the major selling points of our rapid app development tools while also proving that it’s possible to develop great games for mobile devices without spending months of time and millions of dollars to do it. From a local perspective, I think that many people in Central Pennsylvania will be very surprised to see that groundbreaking technology and game design artistry exists right here in Lancaster.”
Adds McComsey, “…in about a five-block radius, no less.”
