POSTAGE ARTISTS PARTICIPATE IN MOCHA TRAINING ::
Two Postage VFX artists will participate in a training session for Mocha (pronounced mock-ah), a planar tracking technology that is quickly becoming a critical application in the Postage toolbox. Mocha analyzes the motion of a particular plane in an emulated 3d space and the results can be used for a number of techniques from replacing television or mobile phone screens to modifying textures and colors of scenes and even to automated rotoscoping.
Mocha and other fine VFX softwares are made by UK firm, Imagineer Systems who is offering courses in Los Angeles and New York this fall.
“We’re placing a big emphasis on education and training, beginning in an aggressive way during the month of October, and continuing for as long as necessary to ensure our customers are well prepared to tackle new opportunities with new tool sets,” said Ross Shain, chief marketing officer of Imagineer Systems. “The title of ‘editor’ is taking on new meaning as traditional editors are increasingly tasked with newer and more complex challenges – challenges that our planar tracking technology is designed to handle with ease. By taking our mocha family directly to the users in these major market cities, we’re showing them first hand just how easy their workflow can be when they integrate these new skill sets.”
“Recently, we produced a piece for Bareville Design which you can see in our gallery. It leans heavily on Mocha to get imagery and modifcations where we wanted them.” says Postage Principal, Allen Clements.
Postage artists travel to New York on October 8th for this innovative industry training.

KODAK RETIRES KODACHROME ::
This week, Kodak announced through a press release that they will no longer be manufacturing Kodachrome film. This is big news for independent film makers that enjoyed the seemingly ever-existent availability of 8/Super 8 or other Kodachrome formats.
We have a camera right here in the office that I had been dying to try out. It seems, however, that the cost vs benefits of film have finally become out-balanced. Filmmakers find themselves using digital effects to emulate everything from saturations to color/luminance levels and even as far as damaging the look of the film.
Anyway, it’s a moment and history we couldn’t help but report. Hats off to an industry icon.
