I’M MY AVATAR ::

Often times, my eight year old son, Gabe tells me which superhero (or combination thereof) he is currently pretending to be.  My wife and I are always tickled at his imagination and which characters he chooses to inhabit for a while.  Sometimes I’ll play along and tell Gabe who I am at the moment… Boba Fett, of course.

We all feel like we’d like to experience something a little different… be a little different… or see or experience something that someone else in the world sees or experiences every day. But adults just don’t say it.

Gabe’s most recent announcement struck me still. I stopped walking in the YMCA parking lot.  I asked him to repeat himself. “I’m my Avatar.” Gabe repeated and then proceeded to run using his arms as rudders as if he were a jet plane.

“I’m my Avatar.” I thought aloud.  How simple he had made it all to be. Perhaps kids can differentiate. They state the pretend confidently but they understand the difference between pretend and real life.  I think it’s adults that are so plugged in to the system that they are their avatars… or at least they think they really are.

I’d like to use this time writing to answer several questions I and you may have about the connection between humans and their imaginative “avatar”s.

Very Cool Blog Love for the Comic-Urban Fusion Art of Courtland Ellis ::

“Let’s be real. Somewhere between allowing Shaq to rhyme with Biggie and the epidemic that is auto-tune, Hip Hop started to fall off; some even believe it’s been happening since the late 80s (see Canibus, Poet Laureate II). Personally, I believe Wacka Flocka Flame was sent here Terminator-style to be the end of Hip Hop as we know it. But no matter what you think about the music, there’s no denying that the culture is alive and thriving and influencing everything from fashion, to TV ads, to animation, and even comics. Courtland Ellis is one of those artists whose Hip Hop influence is prominent in everything from his energetic line strokes to his creation of characters that seem to move to their own beat. Plus, he’s a Lupe Fiasco fan and you can’t go wrong with that.”

Love from The Lancast ::

Co-hosts David Moulton and Keith Slesser produce masterful podcast episodes.  Having listened to several of their shows, and having co-produced NPR and produced Public Radio Programs, I hope that comes as a complement to The Lancast.

A joy to listen to, the latest episode just happened to be about Postage, Inc’s flagship iOS/macOS game, Pinball Massacre. We hope that you’ll visit the Lancast, become regular listeners, and experience our 30 minutes of fame.
