Why are you called, “Postage?”
When Joseph and I put our heads together we made the traditional list of names. We did extensive research to find a name that spoke about what we did and wasn’t already taken.
We think Postage represents us. It represents delivery which is what we do with messages… we compose and deliver. It represents “Post-Production” which is our niche. We think that Postage a cool play on words which might denote something futuristic. Last but not least, if you “get it,” you might catch a little california vibe which would be paying homage to Hollywood or the west coast: the entertainment hub of the U.S.
What is The Fictory and how does it fit into Postage, Inc.?
The basic answer is this, thefictory has always been the imprint of Postage Principal, Joseph Krzemienski. As we worked more and more together, Postage sort of became thefictory’s father, offering a place and support in financial and other encouraging ways. As we move into the future, thefictory is starting to become an imprint for properties we are working on in-house rather than our client’s properties in which we still really enjoy participating.
How much do you charge for a commercial/movie/music video/etc.?
This is incredibly relative to what it is we’re doing. It’s pretty much impossible to state this without discussing what you’re really looking for in a meeting and having an opportunity to ask a lot of questions. For starters, a budget must exceed $1500 for us to initialize. That doesn’t mean we do many $1500 projects, it’s just a starting point to avoid having to screen a large number of inquiries. That aside, we look forward to your inquiries via, phone, email or our contact form. The money isn’t whats important to us as artists, it’s just that we’re a real studio with bills to pay for our staff and technology. We also believe that our products have great value and if used correctly, have the potential to provide great return. If you don’t have the money but have the passion, try fundraising… we’ve helped people to do that before and perhaps we could help you too! Payment plans are also an option.
Can you accomplish motion capture?
We have several sources for this when our projects call for it. Call and ask for a quote for full body or facial motion capture.
Can I pay my bill online?
Absolutely! Anything to save paper and a stamp. Simply enter the amount from your invoice into a paypal payment for us and make sure to include the invoice number, date, and your company name if different from your paypal account.
What program do you use to get the American Terror/Atomic Robo animation look?
We actually use pen and paper! We do use other software to composite and color though. One of the unique things about Postage, Inc. is that we have a traditional animation workflow that we use for specific projects. We’re one of only a handful in the world!
May I intern at Postage, Inc. or theFictory?
The type of interns we need are proficient at illustration and/or are attending college or trade-school for one of the following disciplines: Illustration, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Communications, Film, Animation. (in no particular order) We are not currently accepting internship applications for Production. There is one open PR/Marketing internship we are currently screening for.
The best way to find out when we are looking for new interns is to subscribe to @postagevfx on twitter as we will put out a “call.” This has a lot to do with seasonal patterns, workload and availability. It’s very hard for us to keep this information on file. You could always give us a call or email just to check but definitely keep an eye out for it.
Interns MUST be eligible to receive college credit.
Are you hiring?
We are not currently hiring. We do, however, get jobs that require contractors. Make sure we know who you are, where your proficiencies lie, and how to get in touch with you!
What about job shadowing?
We have tried in the past but have much trouble facilitating job shadowing by non-interns. Among the reasons are specific contracts we are involved with which require non-disclosure between us and our clients. We don’t think it would be fair to require legally-binding contracts for high school or other students. We do apologize as we realize our field is fun! We might be able to have a half hour tour and/or portfolio review if time permits and of course, if it fulfills the necessary requirements for the student.
How do you feel about awards?
Admittedly, we feel a little torn about awards. There have been many firms who strive for awards above all else. Some will use a few awards to sell substandard products, and really lose sight of communication goals. I don’t think we do that, though we have won quite a few awards. As we move forward, we’re entering less of our television commercial products into award shows and concentrating on our independent films and television programs for award winning opportunities. These are largely nomination based and free from the questionably open ended “no-lose, pay-to-win” award programs.
