PROOF OF PURPOSE:: “THE CHAMELEON CLUB” ::
LANCASTER PREMIERE EVENING
We sat in the theatre and ran tests. Harvey Owen wanted to get it just right. “From the top!”, shouted Harvey. The film was digitally re-racked and we waited for our cues. Lit by the flickering of the first hundred frames of my latest film, the Ware center’s modern and purpose-filled acoustical structure looked like the inside of some giant space ark ready to take off. It made me wish that the intro to the film was the scrolling storyline of “A New Hope.” But I guess, you can’t recreate that sort of greatness. It was at rehearsal that I realized the gravity of what “The Chameleon Club” (A Documentary Film) was experiencing.

JOAN OSBORNE FONDLY REMEMBERS LANCASTER ::

Rich Ruoff, founder of the Chameleon Club called me on Friday and said “do you want ten minutes with Joan?” I knew exactly what he meant. Spending over three years producing the Chameleon Club documentary, I had heard a lot about Joan Osborne but didn’t quite grasp the relevance to the Chameleon Club. Apparently our Lancaster home venue was one of the first outer-NY venues that Joan played early in her career… and she returned several times.
If you swear you’ve heard her name before you’re right, though not akin to Ozzy, Joan paid her dues playing the blues which is what she did on Monday night at the inaugural live music event at the Ephrata Main Theatres. In-between those blues-bouts, however, you heard the song “One Of Us” somewhere around 1995 and ever since on popular radio. She’s won at least one and been nominated for, I believe, six Grammy Awards!
Look for timeless pictures by Steve Stoltzfus and a bit of an interview with Joan Osborne in the upcoming documentary.
